Loy Krathong 2025 – Full Moon Night, Meaning & Thai Tradition

Loy Krathong Festival 2025 The Full Moon of Gratitude and Renewal
Every year, as the full moon of the twelfth lunar month rises above Thailand's rivers, the night becomes a canvas of light and reflection. The Loy Krathong Festival, also known as Thailand's Festival of Lights, is one of the country's most beloved traditions, a moment when beauty, belief, and spirituality meet under the glowing moon.
In 2025, Loy Krathong will fall on Thursday, 6 November 2025, when the moon shines brightest and the water flows most peacefully – an auspicious time to give thanks and let go.
The Meaning of the Full Moon in Thai Belief
In Thai culture, the full moon is a sacred symbol of clarity and completion. It marks a time when energy reaches its peak, a perfect moment for release, forgiveness, and renewal. Under the full moon's glow, the water reflects the light of the sky and the hearts of the people who gather beside it.
Floating a krathong (a lotus-shaped basket decorated with candles, flowers, and incense) in the river symbolises letting go of sadness, negativity, and misfortune. It is also a gesture of gratitude to the Goddess of Water, Phra Mae Khongkha, who provides abundance and sustains life.
